Let's Achieve Infinite Zero Landfill
It is no secret that our planet is facing great stress mainly from global warming, diffusion of hazardous substances into the environment and depletion of natural resources. Rapid economical development and industrial growth are no doubt the main factors inducing these effects. Is there a way for corporations to sustain economic growth and minimize their impact on the environment at the same time?
At Fuji Xerox we believe there is. As a manufacturer and a global company, we recognize that we have a social responsibility to reduce the environmental loads of our used products.
In 1994 we initiated our company-wide Product Recycle Policy promoting the reuse of resources so that products are fully utilized and reused to minimize wastage and contribution to landfills. We aim for zero emission and infinite zero landfill. What started as just a collection and recycling of used consumables grew into an established system practiced by all Fuji Xerox offices worldwide called Integrated Recycling System.
We started by looking at our used products as valuable resources rather than waste. We studied the life cycle of products and found that by reusing used parts we can reduce the use of new resources and carbon dioxide discharged in the manufacturing without compromising the quality of products. We called this process Inverse Manufacturing.
As part of our Recycle Design Guideline the life cycle of product parts are planned based on the assumption that they will be reused and recycled. The potential environmental impacts are assessed and addressed to keep them to a minimum before these parts are manufactured.
We roped in our parts and material manufacturers into our mission to jointly develop and improve on reuse techniques. Out of this cooperation, special cleaning and screening techniques were introduced into our recycling process that will not compromise the high quality of our products. Together, we successfully developed a technique that recycles plastic to make it of the same quality as new ones, which was thought to be impossible before.
Today we are proud to say that our products assembled using reused parts is no different from products with new parts only in terms of 1.appearance, 2.performance and function, 3.reliability, and 4.machine life.
Parts and products that cannot be reused are not thrown away. We established a treatment system to recycle 100% of materials as resources. We manually disassembled used parts, sorted them by components and collected them as resources so that they can be reused maximally and at the same time minimized adoption of new resources.
High priority is given to assortment and proper treatment of parts containing hazardous chemical substances to avoid generating environmental load. Guidelines and standards were also established to reduce specific harmful chemical substances and to control the introduction of new specific hazardous chemical substances into products and their use in the manufacturing processes. Essentially, a Closed Loop System of resources has been created to circulate used parts in our manufacturing processes as much as possible.
Today we want to invite you, our valued customer to help us reduce our environmental load further. We are launching the Fuji Xerox Cartridge Collection Bin. This bin will be distributed to all our customers for them to conveniently deposit their used cartridges upon request. Our delivery team will collect all the waste cartridges to be recycled on a regular basis. Its a simple habit for you, but a significant effort in helping our ailing planet.
If you would like to request for a collection bin, please call us on 6766 8888 or enewsletter@sgp.fujixerox.com.
