Documents are becoming smarter. As the pace of technological advance in the IT world has quickened, the world of documents has struggled to keep pace with those advances. Part of the problem stems from the historical lack of convergence between traditional IT and the world of documents. Tremendous progress is now being made in transforming documents from unstructured, passive, application-specific snapshots to self-describing, active documentaries that play a dynamic role in content discovery, adaptive business processes and heightened information security.
